When purchased in November 2003, SummerGlen was owned by a bank, having foreclosed on a previous developer. There were 12 homes, an 18-hole golf course and 167 developed lots.

Since that date, Florida Leisure Communities has sold and closed over 700 homes in the community, and built a major recreational complex. SummerGlen has been named one of the top 100 Master Planned Communities in the U.S. by "Where To Retire" magazine and is consistently one of the top selling active adult communities in Central Florida.
